Eligibility Requirements

to Access Wage / Training Incentive Programs

Participants Must:

  • be unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week
  • not be attending school full-time
  • be a resident of Ontario

Employers Must Not:

  • use placement services to replace existing or laid-off employees
  • begin placement prior to having the placement contract signed
  • hire a relative, i.e. son, daughter, spouse, brother, sister, etc.
  • be an Employment Ontario Employment Service provider
  • displace permanent employees
  • As well, employers must commit to:
  • developing a relevant training/work experience plan that will help the participant achieve his/her employment goal
  • providing feedback and assessments of a participant’s skill level
  • having potential for long-term employment/contract position for the participant

Employers Must:

  • provide employment in Ontario
  • put participants on their payroll and must be paid at least minimum wage
  • provide permanent employment
  • offer proper training and adequate supervision
  • comply with the Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act
  • be licensed to operate in Ontario, have a Federal Business number, Third Party Liability Insurance and appropriate safety insurance coverage either through the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) or private insurance company
  • negotiate a placement contract with a Job Developer from Job Zone d’emploi (the length and amount of the contract varies depending on the position and the participant’s qualifications)

As well, employers must commit to:

  • developing a relevant training/work experience plan that will help the participant achieve his/her employment goal
  • providing feedback and assessments of a participant’s skill level
  • having potential for long-term employment/contract position for the participant
